Preparation for the Procedure
THE DAY BEFORE
Waratah Private Hospital will call you at 3pm on the day before your procedure to confirm the time you need to arrive.
NIL BY MOUTH
EAT NOTHING - On the morning of the examination, please have a light breakfast at 6:00 am after which have nothing to eat until the procedure is completed. You may drink plain water (only) until two (2) hours before you come to hospital.
MEDICATIONS
You can take most of your usual medications with a sip of water
IF YOU ARE ON BLOOD THINNING MEDICATIONS OR ANTI-PLATELET AGENTS (eg Warfarin, Aspirin, Plavix, Pradaxa (Dabigatran), Xarelto (Rivaroxaban), Eliquis (Apixaban)) should be stopped 5-7 days prior to the EUS. You will need to discuss with your doctor when you should stop these medications. If you have stents in your heart DO NOT stop any medicine without your cardiologist’s permission. If necessary, aspirin can be continued up to the day of the test.
IF YOU ARE ON DIABETES TABLETS do not take these on the day of surgery. If you use insulin please take your morning dose with breakfast.

Centrally located in Hurstville, Waratah Private Hospital is just 20 minutes from the Sydney CBD and 5 minutes from public transport.
Enter through the main entrance of Waratah Private Hospital and report to the reception desk on Level one. You will be admitted and the nursing staff will do all the necessary preparation for your procedure.
